Abstract
In architectural coatings, surfactant leaching is a global issue in which customers have historically sought improvements. Surfactant leaching is the efflux of water soluble species from the paint film resulting in an unwanted change of visual appearance of the coating. There are many factors that can contribute to surfactant leaching both intrinsic to the binder and unique to the formulation as well as environmental factors and various combinations within these broader categories. This talk is focused on discussing appearance of surfactant leaching from analytical point of view, the factors influencing surfactant leaching, mechanisms and possible solutions to improve surfactant leaching.
